Do you need a projector or a screen?

Which one should you get?

What is the difference?

These were questions that were going on in my mind until I embarked on my mission to find the best projectors for artists. As an artist myself, I knew there are certain tools that will help me achieve my creative dreams. I also had the advantage of combining my art skills to design artwork for some of the products I tested which helped me develop a greater understanding of what artists need.

On my quest to find the best projector for artists, I went through two types of projectors; the ones that require a screen to display their images on, and the ones that come with their own stands and screens.

Yes indeed, there is a difference, but I will tell you more about that later. First, let’s get to know the top rated projectors for artists in the market right now.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is the best projector for artists?

Trying to decide which projector is right for you? There are a ton of options out there for you to choose from so picking the right one can be tough.

For Artists: The differences between models are subtle. Because you are using the projector in highly controlled settings, any of the products we picked will be effective. For the first time buyer we recommend the ViewSonic PJD5533w.

Considerations: How much are your presentation skills worth to you? The higher price products are top of the line and will save you time and energy.

For Hobbyists: Outdoor Presentations: The ViewSonic PJD8320w is a great choice for this application. Many hobbyists are willing to spend a bit more money to make their outdoor media events more impressive. You can read more in this projector buying guide.

How many lumens should a good projector have?

Projectors have two measurement of brightness: lumens and ANSI lumens. Lumens are much more useful, and you will find a projector with 3,500 lumens or more on the market today. That is an excellent number of lumens.

Some newer projectors come with 10,000 lumens or more, which are capable of playing a movie in a dark room without any issue. On the other hand, 3,500 lumens would be enough if you need to project pictures on a screen about the size of a standard movie theater screen. These projectors will also be able to play movies with no problem in a dark room.

Which Epson projector is the best?

Sitting home and working on a big screen is no problem anymore. The 708HD is has a huge dynamic contrast ratio which can produce excellent blacks and whites. This is great for watching movies, working on projects, or even for just surfing the internet. It has an amazing 10,000:1 contrast ratio and high resolution. Not only that but it comes with an impressive brightness of 3000 ANSI lumens with a 6-segment color wheel. That’s why it is considered by many as the best Epson projector.

If not the above, you can choose from:

  • PowerLite Pro Z6100W(5110) Full HD 1080p 3LCD Projector
  • PowerLite Home Cinema 710HD(5910) widescreen Full HD 1080p 3LCD
  • PowerLite Pro Z25000 Projector

Conclusion

When you are starting out as an artist, it can be tough to manage your time.

Whether you are at home or in a communal studio space such as an art school, you will encounter busy tables.

This can lead to problems accessing the materials you want, or even having to work with the materials you can get ahold of, rather than the ones you want.

Not to worry though, as we will look at a few different options that can help you manage your time more effectively and still ensure you get to work with the materials you need.
